Danse Theatre - 1664

Cultural ,  Theatre ,  Dance in Saint-Ouen
18 Full-fare
  • Artist in residence this season, Hortense Belhôte is back with her trusty video projector and inimitable glibness for another spectacular lecture. After 1789 and the Revolution, she tackles another symbolic date : 1664.

  • It was in this year that Fouquet was sentenced to life imprisonment after a huge party, while the young Sun King organised the first celebration of his absolute power at Versailles. 1664 was also the year in which the Kronenbourg brewery was founded in Strasbourg, as well as the year in which the Compagnie des Indes was set up, the future distributor of coffee, tobacco, rum, sugar and opium...

It was in this year that Fouquet was sentenced to life imprisonment after a huge party, while the young Sun King organised the first celebration of his absolute power at Versailles. 1664 was also the year in which the Kronenbourg brewery was founded in Strasbourg, as well as the year in which the Compagnie des Indes was set up, the future distributor of coffee, tobacco, rum, sugar and opium...

From liberating festivities to political propaganda, from the symphony of the arts to the sclerosis of the academies, from intoxication to addiction, this unlikely year of 1664 becomes the key clue to a seminal political change of which France is still the heir.

Hortense Belhôte seeks to recapture the joy, madness and freedom of the first 17th century, when painting, architecture, gardens, dance, music and theatre danced like overexcited muses to the sound of a Cindy Lauper hit.

A lecture-performance in the spirit of the Baroque, blending the memories of a partying student with pure erudition. 1664, fresh and sparkling.

This evening, Hortense Belhôte is giving carte blanche to Lou Cantor, the choreographer and baroque dancer who collaborated with her on this performance. 15 minutes of choreography, a spectacular participatory workshop, a danced lecture? Surprise!

    Around the show :
